JAPANESE SPINDLE BUSH
JAPANESE SPINDLE BUSH
LATIN NAME: EUONYMUS JAPONICUS AUREUS
HOMELAND: KOREA & JAPAN
Euonyme's poisonous hands
It takes its Latin name from the burning by touch and poisonous hands of Euonyme of Greek Mythology, the mother of the Furie / Erinyes, known as the female guardians of the "Dungeon of the Damned", where the God of the underworld and the world of the dead, Hades, ceaned sinful men.
The japanese spindle bush can also grow as a tree when left in its natural state, apart from being shaped as an ornamental hedge.
The yellowing on the leaves is a sign of aging, and the completely yellowed leaves fall off and are replaced by gren young leaves.
The small yellow berries, which are difficult to spot without care full attention, are poisonous and are eaten by some bird species, especially the robin, which are immune to this poison.
Japanese Spindle Bush, whose orange-colored seeds were used in dyeing in the past, has been used in the manufacture of wool spinning tools since the Middle Ages in Europe, where it is not known exactly how it came from its homeland of the Far East, and today it stil means "Wool Spinning Tree" in Turkish.
According to the belief, the great plague epidemic in the Middle Ages started after the early bloom for the first time of the Japanese Spindle Bush, and this belief continued for many years after the plague epidemic passed.
It doesn’t have much of a story in its homelan in the Far East, except that it is used in the manufacture of painkillers and medicines against menstrual irregularities by Shennong, who is considered the inventor of acupuncture therapy and the father of Traditional Chinese Medicine, in the article 112942 of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Chengdu University in China, published in 2020.
